The Benefits of DDP Training - Lucy Mitchell
The Benefits of DDP Training at Stepping Stones Care
At Stepping Stones Care, our commitment to providing the best possible care for children is at the heart of everything we do. Continuous learning and professional development are essential to ensure that our team is equipped with the latest and most effective tools and techniques. Recently, our Registered Manager, Lucy Mitchell, attended a four-day training course on Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).
Initial Scepticism to Enthusiastic Engagement
Lucy admits that she was initially sceptical about the DDP training. Like many professionals in the field, she questioned the value of another therapeutic approach. However, her doubts were quickly dispelled within the first couple of hours of the training. Lucy shares, “I felt the DDP training was incredible. This was a training course I was a little sceptical about prior to attending; however, within the first couple of hours, I was captivated with the trainers and elements of DDP they were demonstrating and how effective this approach really is.”
Real-Life Impact
One of the most insightful aspects of the training was the opportunity to observe a real-life therapy session. This experience provided Lucy and her colleagues with a tangible understanding of how DDP works in practice. She recalls, “There was a real-life therapy session we observed which really captured how DDP works with children. I was equally impressed with how the DDP approach supports adults who are looking after our children, simply by validating what they are feeling which enables better care and understanding for the children they are supporting.”
This hands-on observation underscored the dual benefits of DDP: it not only facilitates healing and connection for the children but also provides crucial emotional support for the caregivers. By acknowledging and validating the feelings of adults, DDP fosters a more empathetic and nurturing environment, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided to the children.
Personal and Professional Growth
The training was not just a professional development opportunity but also a source of personal growth for Lucy and her fellow managers. The in-depth discussions and shared experiences during the training led to meaningful conversations about integrating DDP principles into daily practice. Lucy reflects, “I took a great deal from the training, both personally and professionally, and this opened up deep and meaningful conversations with other managers throughout the four-day training on how each of us will use elements in our daily practice. I genuinely look forward to the next phase of the training.”
These interactions highlighted the importance of collaboration and the exchange of ideas in improving care strategies. The collective enthusiasm and commitment to incorporating DDP into their work culture signify a promising step forward for Stepping Stones Care.
Looking Ahead
As we look forward to the next phase of training, the insights and skills gained will undoubtedly enrich our approach to supporting the children in our care.
At Stepping Stones Care, we are dedicated to embracing innovative and evidence-based methods like DDP to create a more compassionate and effective care environment.
