Our ethos and vision at OPAL House is to be an Outstanding provision which is child focused and friendly in everything that we do, whilst providing the highest quality of care in achieving outstanding outcomes - for children, staff, families and the community.

Opal House is our 3 bed Therapeutic Children’s Home in Birmingham. We are supported by a clinical psychologist who provides support, guidance and advice to both young people and the staff team. This includes but is not limited to;

  • Initial assessments as required

  • Staff consultation and clinical supervision in team meetings

  • Oversight of our therapeutic care plans and behaviour support documents.

  • Regular observations of both the children’s behaviour and staff practice.

  • Remote support as and when required.

  • Regular direct or indirect therapy sessions for young people if required.

Our clinical psychologist will be training all staff members in their induction periods and as an ongoing process in the therapeutic model of parenting, as well as PACE and elements of DDP so that our team will be enriched with this as a foundation to their continuous high-level quality of care and nurture as the paramount core of how we work with children and young people.

The home provides accommodation for children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, often related to complex trauma and attachment difficulties, aged from 8-18. The Home can provide accommodation for up to three young people at a time and is open to placements for both male and female young people.

We want to make a positive difference in every child’s life. We will help each child learn to understand and manage the impact of any experience of trauma and abuse. We will support children to develop resilience and skills to prepare the child to return home, to live in a new placement or to live independently as an adult.

We aim to support young people to take control of their lives and make positive choices for their future. We know that young people who are kept busy and engaged in positive pursuits that they enjoy are less likely to make negative choices and engage in negative behaviour. To this end, we place a high emphasis on developing structured activity programmes and incentive programmes with all our young people. This means that they will be engaged in activities they enjoy, giving them access to positive, age appropriate peer groups, thereby reducing the likelihood of engagement in anti-social behaviour.
