#OurJourney with Counselling Therapist, Liam Barrett-Hawkins
Welcome to Stepping Stones Care! Today, we are excited to share the inspiring journey of our counselling therapist, Liam Barrett-Hawkins. Liam’s passion for psychology and his dedication to helping others have shaped his career and brought him to Stepping Stones Care, where he makes a significant impact on the lives of children and young people in our care.
A Passion for People
“My name is Liam Barrett-Hawkins and I'm the counselling therapist at Stepping Stones Care.”
Liam’s story begins with his fascination for human interaction. From a young age, he was captivated by the complexities of interpersonal relationships and the ways in which people connect with one another.
“I've always had a fascination in interacting with people, particularly interacting on an interpersonal level. That's what initially got me to go and do psychology at university.”
This curiosity led Liam to pursue a degree in psychology, where he delved deep into understanding the human mind and behaviour. However, it was during his time at university that Liam realised his true calling was in practical application.
The Path to Practice
“It was within this that I decided that I really wanted to go more the practice route. So then after finishing that course that led me to then start my masters in counselling for children and young people and learn the whole theoretical model of my whole practice.”
Determined to make a difference, Liam embarked on a journey to specialise in counselling for children and young people. His postgraduate studies provided him with a solid foundation in various theoretical models, which have become integral to his practice.
“I think that just really sat with me as a person and I think we can really get into human interactions and relationships.”
Gaining Experience and Making an Impact
Liam’s qualifications opened doors to numerous opportunities, allowing him to work in diverse settings with a wide range of clients. His experience spans from clinical environments, where he has supported individuals with mild to moderate anxiety, to more unique settings like Stepping Stones Care.
“Since then, I've worked within multiple settings, numerous children and adults as well as kids within more your clinical settings where they come presenting as mild to moderate anxiety. And of course, I'm here now at Stepping Stones Care working within residential homes in quite a different setting as well where every day can vary.”
A Unique Approach at Stepping Stones Care
At Stepping Stones Care, Liam’s role is both challenging and rewarding. Each day presents new opportunities to engage with children and young people, helping them navigate their emotions and build resilience. The home settings allow for a more personalised approach, where Liam can adapt his techniques to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Liam’s commitment to the children in our care and his passion for fostering positive human interactions make him an invaluable member of the Stepping Stones Care team.
We are proud to have Liam Barrett-Hawkins as part of our team and look forward to seeing the continued positive impact he will have on the lives of those in our care.
